Pedrollo water pumps are well suited for use as solar water pumps using solar power in solar systems.
A solar water pump is either a pump with a permanent magnet motor, (we find this option to be exceptionally expensive once the controller is added), or a 220 volt motor with a highly efficient electro mechanical conversion ratio which enables the unit to be coupled to a high quality inverter.
The first solar water pump described above generally only operates in sunlight and is completely static during darkness. Furthermore the controller and motor combination make this a relatively expensive and dedicated power source.
Solar systems which produce solar power specifically for a solar water pump is not taking into consideration the South African design imperative for lighting, and extra power socket and for security fence or protection of some sort.
The unfortunate truth of the South African situation is the exceptionally high crime rate and the demand to protect ones property from the general attitude of entitlement resulting in major losses due to theft.
We therefore recommend the installation of solar power which stores energy in batteries and powers all devices via an inverter. This enables one to install an electric fence, a telemetry system and or a security alarm.
When requiring a solar driven pump consider having the pump working with the lowest flow to the required head and potentially for 8 hours per day. The longer the pump works at a low flow rate the more economically viable the solar system will be to both purchase and maintain.
