Inevitably, industrial pumps will include wastewater pumps of some description, as required in a typical manufacturing process.

Sewage pumps, trash pumps, and commercial pumps are all in some way referred to as wastewater pumps.

Water pumps, when required for a process with effluent or a washing process, will typically be submersible pumps, especially when handling sewage. (sewage pumps)

The dramatic move away from long line shafts (vertical pumps) from the late 1960’s onwards is due to the significant efforts to develop submersible pump technologies and effective seal designs.

Pumps for wastewater need to be capable of handling various effluents, from raw sewage to chemically treated effluents, solids in the fluid, biodegradable solid and liquid components, as well as wash water laden with detergents and laundry waste.
